Tony Danza is facing backlash for the way he treated a red carpet reporter at a Broadway opening this week.
The 72-year-old actor walked the carpet for the opening of the new musical New York, New York on Wednesday (April 26) and he briefly chatted with reporter Rye Myers.
Right after Rye introduced himself to Tony and producer Jamie deRoy, the actor told him, “Rye, relax a little. You’re more excited than we are. Take it easy!”

Rye asked Tony, “What’s your favorite New York City staple food item? Is it pizza or a hot dog?” This was a fun question he was asking everyone on the red carpet to go along with the theme of the show.
Tony reached over and put his hand on Rye‘s face and said, “You know what you gotta do buddy? You gotta come up with better questions.”
Rye opened up about the moment in the caption of his TikTok video.
“As a red carpet reporter, I’m here to help bring excitement to your event and promote it! I LOVE chatting with Broadway and Entertainment’s best as ‘Your Broadway & Entertainment BFF!’ I understand not everyone is in the mood to answer questions, and you can always pass. I asked these same questions (and a few others!) to heavy hitters like Joel Grey, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and others, and only Tony Danza replied like this… To say I was blown away, shocked, and embarrassed is an understatement… But, my professionalism showed through!” Rye said.
Rye has been getting lots of supports in the comments, including from Michael Buble.
“I think you’re amazing Ry. I’ll have a pizza with ya. Let’s not invite Tony…” Michael wrote in the comments section.
