A leak for Genshin Impact’s upcoming Release 3.4 has revealed gameplay for a new boss that is expected to be added: Wind-Bitten Sandworm. Drawing from the obvious beta footage shot by a player named 小鳥が六花, the video shows the fight against the new enemy.

Version 3.3 of Genshin Impact was released a little over a week ago, but beta testing for 3.4 has been ongoing ever since, and leaks like this give fans an early look at what’s to come in the new version. It has already been revealed that new characters Alhaitham and Yaoyao (their gameplay can be seen for a moment in the leak) will be added in the upcoming update, as well as new weapons and the return of the Lantern Rite event that should bring Liyue back as a standard free four-star character.

Most importantly, the next expected update for Version 3.4 is the expansion of the Sumeru desert region. This will be the area where the new Wind-Bitten Sandworm appears, as seen in the leaked gameplay footage. First added in Version 3.0, the Sumeru region has already introduced four new world bosses, as well as a weekly boss in Balladeer, so this provides a natural expansion to world content.

The leaked footage doesn’t show any of the Wind-Bitten Sandworm’s attacks, but instead focuses on its unique movement mechanics. The worm dives in and out of the desert sands, offering only limited windows for the player to attack and deal damage. This type of invulnerability mechanic is similar to the Ruin Serpent introduced in Version 2.6, even the Wind-Bitten Sandworm has a similar drill head, but the Sandworm’s moves look a bit more graceful than those of the Ruin Serpent. Previous leaks had also mentioned that the boss would drop Character Level Up Material items called Pseudo-Stamens for Alhaitham.

Players should have the opportunity to learn more about the Wind-Bitten Sandworm, including its attacks, dies, and interactions with Genshin Impact items when Version 3.4 is released. No official announcement has been made yet, but according to HoYoverse’s usual six-week schedule, the update should launch on January 18 next year. These regular updates, along with the speed with which players scan for such leaks, speak to Genshin Impact’s continued popularity and enthusiasm for engaging with it as it expands.
